Postnatal Pilates is the perfect post-pregnancy exercise as it helps regain strength, posture, & pelvic floor awareness and to reconnect with your body after giving birth. You can bring your baby along if you like (but not obligated to) so no need to worry about childcare. A very relaxed atmosphere so you can tend to your baby as needed.
There are many benefits to doing Pilates in the postnatal period:
A great way to return to exercise in a way that is friendly to the postnatal body & a great starting point before getting back into higher impact movements such as running or strength training:
A mindful way to move your body:
Utilising breath work to connect with the core & pelvic floor muscles:
Strengthening the core & smaller stabilising muscles that support the spine, pelvis and hip:
Enhanced awareness of your posture and back muscles:
Meet new mums in the area and have an hour to yourself.
You can usually attend 6 weeks post delivery. If you are offered a 6-week check up, I'd ask the GP about attending class or you can check with your health visitor . If you had a c-section, you may have to wait a bit longer before you can return to group exercise. In any case, please chat with your healthcare provider and ask them to approve you for exercise before attending a class. I'd also highly recommend going to see a Women's Health Physio and get a personalised assessment of how things are. It can enhance your class experience as sometimes the movements prescribed by the physio are similar to what we do in class & you will get more in-dept guidance on the movement.
Please don't be too worried if you think your baby might be unsettled, or chatty during class, it will not bother me and it won't bother those around you, everyone will have a baby there. You can tend to your baby as and when you need, Conifox is a very parent-friendly venue with a parenting room for changing. Also, please don't worry about being late, just come into class & get what you can from it, evening if it's really late! I completely understand what it is like getting out of the house with a baby so no judgement or issues if you are late. Please get in touch with any questions.
You are welcome to join the block mid-way through if there is space. Classes are usually organised in 6-week blocks with PAYG available if space permits.
