Pilates for all

Happy Body style of Pilates is best described as a movement class that can help you enhance your body awareness and own understanding of your posture, core strength, and coordination.

Anyone can benefit from my class. However, I like to particularly invite those who may not have exercised in a while or are returning to exercise and if you need a class where you will have space to move at your own pace. The class is well-paced to allow you to concentrate on your movement and explore the principles of Pilates such as breath work, control & centering, and improving our mind-body connection to be present in our movements.

Pilates is a lower-impact form of movement that emphasises the activation & strengthening of the core muscles. Pilates can help us improve movement, ease general aches & pains & strengthen our core & stabilising muscles. Everyone can benefit from Pilates - desk workers, older population, active and or inactive lifestyles too!

Beginners are most welcome to class. The style of this class encompasses both the body & mind with a focus on the Principles of breathing, the centre, control & concentration enhancing your mind, and body awareness. I teach a slower but controlled pace to my classes with also a focus on mobility & movement.

Price shown is per single class. Purchase a flexible class pass for the best value!

The cancellation policy is as follows: You can cancel your pass up to 24 hours before the class & the pass is returned to your account. Any cancellations within 24 hours, the pass is forfeited.

Indoor Cycling (Spinning) Classes

Join Daire (pronounced Dara) for a 45-minute indoor cycling class. Indoor cycling is an effective, low-impact form of cardiovascular exercise whether you are a beginner or a seasoned cyclist.

I understand that a spin class can be daunting and maybe you have experienced a class before that you felt was very intense or being asked to perform at a pace/level that didn't seem possible or appropriate. I promise a welcoming and non-intimidating environment and you will always be in control of your bike. We don't do anything on a bike that you wouldn't do on a road bike. Have a read of my blog where I outline some common poor practices in spin classes in the industry.

I create effective, efficient, and safe classes that aim to mimic the terrain you find on the road. This means you will learn the important relationship between resistance & speed on the bike to create effective challenges. Unfortunately, in my experience, unsafe cadence/RPM (speed) is often encouraged in class which results in an unsafe level of resistance being used whilst pedaling. You will learn how to effectively use the bike to create a great workout.

It is perfect for beginners or if you are restarting exercising after a break. It has a lower impact on the joints than running, it's a great cardio exercise that aids in strengthening our cardiovascular system, the lower body muscles, core, and back! You'll feel amazing after too!

If you have any questions or are unsure if this is suitable for you, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

The class is located in WORK Bootcamp, which is above Crown Grove Garages in Kirkliston Village.

Please note price shown is per single class. Purchase one of our flexible class passes to get best value.

Mum & Baby Postnatal Pilates

Postnatal Pilates is the perfect post-pregnancy exercise as it helps regain strength, posture, & pelvic floor awareness and to reconnect with your body after giving birth. You can bring your baby along if you like (but not obligated to) so no need to worry about childcare. A very relaxed atmosphere so you can tend to your baby as needed.

There are many benefits to doing Pilates in the postnatal period:

  • It could aid the recovery of Diastasis recti (though an individual assessment by a women's health physio is advised:
  • A great way to return to exercise in a way that is friendly to the postnatal body & a great starting point before getting back into higher impact movements such as running:
  • A mindful way to move your body:
  • Utilising breath work to connect with the core & pelvic floor muscles:
  • Strengthening the core & smaller stabilising muscles that support the spine, pelvic and hip:
  • Enhanced awareness of your posture and back muscles:
  • Meet new mums in the area and have an hour to yourself.

You can attend 6-10 weeks post delivery and only if you have been cleared to return to exercise by your healthcare provider. If you had a cesarean section, you may have to wait up to 12 weeks post-birth before you can return to exercise. In any case, please chat with your healthcare provider and ask them to approve you for exercise before attending a class.

Please don't be too worried if you think your baby might be unsettled, or chatty during class, it will not bother me and it won't bother those around you, everyone will have a baby there. You can tend to your baby as and when you need, Conifox is a very parent-friendly venue with a parenting room for changing. Please get in touch with any questions.

You are welcome to join the block mid-way through if there is space. Classes are usually organised in 6-week blocks with PAYG available if space permits.

Personal Training

I offer Personal Training specialising in working with women of all ages.

I am passionate about helping women become more active in their busy lives and Personal Training can be just the thing that gets you started on an active journey.

Strength training can be hugely beneficial to all ages & abilities but strength training and its benefit to women has been undervalued for years, often favouring endless cardio instead (not saying cardio isn't beneficial but variety is the spice of life). Strength or resistance training involves using either your body weight and or weight lifting equipment (resistance bands, dumbbells, barbells) in your workout to build strength & endurance. We often perceive strength training as only strengthening our muscles however strength training is incredible for stronger bones which is essential for warding off a very very common condition: osteoporosis. Strength training increases bone density & can reduce our risk of osteoporosis.

Further to the very beneficial reduced risk of osteo, strength training can:

  • Strengthen the muscles;
  • Reduce body fat & build muscle mass (along with good nutrition);
  • Improve posture & balance;
  • Improved confidence & mental well-being;
  • Feeling strong!
  • Combating natural loss of bone density;

Strength training doesn't have to be extreme or complicated. Working with a personal trainer can help you learn & perform strength training moves effectively & safely. Instagram will have you thinking it's difficult and out of reach. Endless 'beginner', 'glutes', 'arms' workouts or routines that Instagram tell you you NEED to be doing. The reality is, if trainers on Instagram showed you their workout, it would be boring as it is probably a very similar routine of strength exercises. If it's on Instagram, it's because it looks 'cool' for the gram and not because you need to be doing it. Also, fitness doesn't have one 'look'. We may feel we have been given an overarching physical goal by the fitness industry such as 'tone up', 'weight loss 'spot reduce areas' 'extreme transformations' as a lot of marketing is geared towards are body image insecurities. These are absolutely valid goals but they take time and it is also OK to focus on goals or experience the following benefits of; 'I am managing my chronic illness', 'I have so much energy', 'my anxiety has reduced', 'my back pain flares have reduced', 'I cycled to work without stopping!', 'I can keep up with my kids/grandkids. We don't have to be extreme, just consistent and we will create an incredible lifestyle for the long run.

Sessions for mobile sessions start at £38 for a single session, however, I can do value packages in blocks of 5 or 10 which will bring the cost per session down. Sessions in a gym incur a slightly higher cost - please get in touch for pricing.

I offer mobile PT. Therefore, we can train in the comfort of your own home or back garden or a mutual location such as the local park. If you would prefer a gym setting we can train in the Community Hub Gym in South Queensferry. Please do get in touch if you would like to discuss this.

Small Group training or duet personal training can also be arranged.

Personal Training Gym sessions are based in South Queensferry Sports & Community Hub.Â
